The ISBN is a persistent identifier that allows a title or an edition of a title from a particular publisher to be uniquely and durably recognized through the assignment of a code consisting of 13 digits.

ISBN stands for International Standard Book Number and is attributed in addition to books to all products created for use as books.

The ISBN code is different for the print and e-book versions of the same book, which will have to be assigned two different ISBN codes. In addition, the different formats of the e-book (e.g., .lit, .pdf, .html, .pdb) will also need to be identified with a different ISBN code for each format.

AlmaDL staff handles the assignment of ISBNs only to refereed contributions published online through its services.

The ISBN is assigned upon request to almadl@unibo.it by the author or editor of the contribution, taking care to indicate the Director of the relevant department in cc.

The author or editor of the contribution holds full responsibility for the referencing activity, which must be declared in the request for ISBN attribution.

AlmaDL staff verifies the requirements and assigns the ISBN code to the published PDF version of the e-book free of charge.

ISBN assigned and may not be used for any printed copies of the same contribution.
