The University of Bologna, since 2007, provides qualified staff and the technological infrastructure for the collection, storage, publication and on-line dissemination of PhD theses in electronic format through the institutional repository AMS Dottorato.
The deposit in AMS Dottorato is addressed to PhD students of the University of Bologna and must be made before the final examination, according to the deadlines set by the Doctoral Office.
The archive complies with international standards of interoperability and metadata transmission and is integrated with similar services at national and international level, allowing the enhancement of PhD theses through specific projects currently under way. In particular, the doctoral theses of the University of Bologna are searchable in Google, Google Scholar, BASE Lab, DART-EUROPE, WorldCat, Opac of Florence, Openaire.
Through AMS Dottorato, the University of Bologna legally deposits doctoral theses at the National Central Libraries of Rome and Florence and guarantees their preservation and accessibility.
AMS Dottorato allows doctoral theses to be published in open access with user licences that favour their discovery, study, sharing and re-use according to Open Science principles, implementing specific licences, including Creative Commons licences.
AMS PhD also offers the possibility of setting an embargo period, normally not exceeding 36 months, in the cases envisaged by the Academic Senate.
All doctoral theses are identified with NBN, while Open Access theses are also given a DOI.
The AMS Doctoral Archive is identified by ISSN 2038-7946.
AlmaDL offers support, in particular for:
- presentation of the service to PhD students and lecturers;
- training to PhD students;
- uploading of the thesis in AMS Dottorato archive;
- validation of the thesis after the final examination;
- legal support in copyright matters;
- choice of possible embargo period;
- choice of user licence.
