• In 2001, the idea was born to create an Athenaeum digital library, which is a technological infrastructure for the collection, preservation and online enjoyment of digital content.
  • AlmaDL was established in 2002 as a Digital Library project to support teaching services.
  • In 2003, the first versions of the institutional archives were implemented: AMS Campus for teaching materials, AMS Acta for research products, and AMS Historica for historical and valuable works.
  • In 2006, the AMS Dissertation Project was launched to create an institutional University repository for the collection, bibliographic management, discovery and online use of dissertations in electronic format. The AMS Laurea institutional repository was implemented at the initiative of the master's degree programs in Environmental and Territorial Engineering and Civil Engineering and in collaboration with AlmaDL and the Scientific-Technical Area Coordination and the Engineering Sector of the University Library System.
  • In 2007, in collaboration with the Doctoral Office, the AMS Doctoral Institutional Archive was created with the dual objective of enhancing the international value of doctoral dissertations and simplifying administrative management procedures. AMS Dottorato guarantees the legal deposit in digital format of the papers, in adherence to the initiative promoted by CRUI and in collaboration with the National Central Libraries of Rome and Florence.
  • Since 2007, AlmaDL Journals has been curating the online publication of peer-reviewed and Open Access University scholarly journals via the OJS (Open Journal Systems) platform and offering editorial support services.
  • From 2008 to 2018, AMS Campus was integrated with the information systems of educational programming, the University registry and the Unibo Portal for the dissemination of educational materials.
  • Since 2016 AMS Acta has been hosting research data and has been registered in the European research portal OpenAIRE.
  • As of 2021, the process of migrating the digital collection of valuable works to the new platform of AMS Historica has been initiated.
  • Since 2022, AlmaDL has been offering support services in the area of copyright law, particularly with regard to academic publishing and dissemination in Open Access.
