NOTE: the 2024 agreement is still under negotiation so, from January 1 it is not possible to publish Open Access with the coverage of the agreement.

The University of Bologna has joined the national CARE-CRUI agreement signed with American Chemical Society (ACS). This transformative agreement covers both the subscription fees for accessing the All Publications collection, encompassing all the American Chemical Society’s publications, and the fees for publishing Open Access in the hybrid journals included in the same collection. Therefore, authors can publish Open Access at no additional costs.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Which authors may be eligible?

Only corresponding authors already affiliated with the University of Bologna on the date the article is accepted are eligible, including academics with fixed-term contracts such as PhD students, research fellows, fixed-term assistant professors, specialisation school students, etc.

In such cases, authors must submit their contributions via their institutional email address (i.e.: name.surname@unibo.it or name.surname@studio.unibo.it).

If the article has more than one corresponding author, only the primary author (the one who keeps directly in contact with the publisher and takes care of the whole submission and publishing process) is deemed eligible to publish Open Access.

Which are the eligible journals?

Authors can publish in the hybrid journals included in the All Publications collection subscribed by the University of Bologna. The collection is available on the ACS Publications website.

The transformative agreement doesn’t cover the costs of publishing in fully Open Access journals, which therefore are charged to the authors. Click here to see the Open Access costs for ACS journals.

Here is the list of the journals published by the American Chemical Society, which includes both the hybrid journals (marked as “Subscription”) and the fully Open Access journals (marked as “Open Access Only”).

What happens if the annual national fund is exhausted?

The agreement covers the publishing costs up to the annual national fund for all the institutions that signed the agreement.

Once the national fund is exhausted, the costs for publishing new articles will be charged to the authors.

In case the annual fund is used only partially, the remaining part may be employed to convert articles published under the traditional publishing model to Open Access.

Under which kind of licence will articles be published?

A CC BY licence.

Authors retain all rights relating to their articles, which may be deposited in the University of Bologna institutional repository (IRIS) and published on the authors’ personal websites. Open access is granted right after the publication without any embargo period.

When will the article be published Open Access?

The article will be published once the University of Bologna has verified the author’s affiliation with the University and has given its approval.

Which costs are excluded from the coverage of the agreement?

Any other publication fees (i.e.: submission fees, color pages, overlength pages fees etc.) are not covered by the agreement.
